South Devon Railway

**UPDATE**

It is with great regret that the South Devon Railway (SDR) has had to suspend ALL train services with immediate effect from 17th March until Saturday 16th May.

Full Press Release Here.

The multi-award winning South Devon Railway is one of Devon’s and the West Country’s best loved tourist attractions and is the longest established steam railway in the south west, celebrating over 50 years in preservation.

The South Devon Railway or SDR is a seven mile former Great Western Railway branch line, built in 1872, which runs along the stunning valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes.

We run steam trains with heritage rolling stock and offer a wonderful all day, all weather attraction for families and people of all ages.

Ride the South Devon Railway and while you are with us, you can visit the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm and Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies:

3 Great Attractions, 1 Amazing Day.

Why not join one of our popular Dining Trains from Buckfastleigh station and enjoy a traditional Sunday Lunch.

Plus keep an eye out for new events including Afternoon Teas and themed evenings that will be added throughout the year.

Food and Drink  Refreshment Rooms

The award-winning Refreshment Rooms at Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway are an excellent place to come for hot meals, snacks, cakes and delicious Devon cream teas.

When visiting the South Devon Railway, please come and see us for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea.

Our ever popular breakfasts feature free range eggs, honey roast sausages, prime back bacon combined with hash browns, baked beans, tomatoes and toast. Freshly cooked to order, with a pot of tea or coffee, they are real value for money.

For lunch or a snack, our menu is extensive and offers an extensive choice from fresh sandwiches, pasties cooked on the premises or hot food freshly cooked to order.

Each day our chefs prepare homemade favourites such as scampi and chips, baguettes, jacket potatoes, quiches and soup.

Try our homemade cakes, pastries, cookies and other sweets.

The Gift and Shop and Refreshment Rooms at Buckfastleigh station are open every day (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) from 10am to 5pm when trains are running and from 10am to 4pm when trains are not running.

A great place to meet, eat and enjoy.

Call us or drop in!

Coach drivers: the Refreshment Rooms are an excellent stopping off point too. We’re on the A38 midway between Exeter and Plymouth.

Accessibility

All of our stations are suitable for access by disabled people who are warmly welcomed.

There is plenty of car parking at Buckfastleigh. Our trains have disabled access and reserved spaces for wheelchair users*.

Buckfastleigh station is the best starting point for your journey as we have easy, flat access and parking very close to the platform.

Our station at Totnes is only accessible via a footpath link and is some 500 yards from the nearest parking at Totnes National Rail station.

Please note that our dining trains do not have reserved spaces for wheelchair using passengers and the doors of the dining train carriages are narrower than the width of standard wheelchairs.

However, we would ask that you to contact us so we can help meet your specific requirements.
